Jimmy Penguin needs little introduction – as a founder of the Community Skratch Games & Skratchlords, with countless albums, production and mastering credits, various musical aliases, bands, and several titles in worldwide turntablist battles, he has certainly had a huge impact in the world of skratch music and beyond. He is also a legend in the Street Fighter competitive gaming world.
Perfect K.O. Brings together all of Jimmy's creativity into one seriously concentrated piece of wax!
10 years of skipless record design and manufacture skills have gone in to creating this turntablist musical tool.
No other skratch record like this exists with this level of features and craftsmanship, with the masters hand-cut by Henry Bainbridge of Dubstudio mastering house in Bristol.
Side A has 15 tracks of original skipless content, plus bonus grooves in between each ring of samples, as well as a Drum Skratching section, a locked-groove drum break, and a unique collection of locked-groove tones arranged in ascending notes and processed to recreate of the 5 channels on the Ricoh 2A03 chip used in the NES console. These Tones are designed to compliment the content of Side B which is is all in the key of C.
Side B is part record, part instrument, part sequencer, part synthesizer. There are 35 separate lock grooves on this side, all synchronized to the same starting point for visual cueing, and arranged in groups based on their style: Percussion, Drum Loops, Chords and Arpeggios, and Tones. The entire side is based on the same root-note (C) so all tracks are compatible with each other, no matter what pitch you start with.
Finally, the etching on Side A not only looks awesome but it is aligned with the samples contained in the grooves, which allows it to be used as a reference for each beat or syllable arranged in 16ths going around the record. Having this design on the outer edge of the record provides an extra level of accuracy for visualising the sounds during practice and performance. The 5 characters depicted are the ones used by Jimmy in competitive Street Fighter.
